Accessibility statement

Welsh Blood Service is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to www.welsh-blood.org.uk

Compliance status

www.welshblood.org.uk is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 level AA standard, due to the non-compliance and the exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard:
    • The hamburger can be expanded but the links within it are not clear for users. For example, the link ‘View can I donate?’ cannot be accessed using the keyboard
    • Please note there is now no keyboard function when the keyboard selects ‘Got it’ within the cookie banner
    • The main navigational menu links along the top of the webpage are not accessible using the keyboard
  • WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible:
    • At 200% zoom and more, the keyboard focus becomes lost as it tabs through the hamburger menu before expanding

Content not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

  • WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow:
    • At 400% zoom and in mobile view (320 x 256 pixels), once expanded, the chat icon at the bottom of the webpage does not reflow to fit the webpage correctly as some contact options are no longer available

We are actively working to address these issues and improve the website’s accessibility, particularly around keyboard access. The WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow is due to a free, third-party plug-in, which is exempt from the accessibility regulations however, we have passed on the feedback to the provider.

We aim to resolve each of these issues by 01/08/2025.

This statement was prepared on 15/01/2025. It was last reviewed on 27/01/2025.

The website was tested on 12/12/2024, carried out by Government Digital Services.

A further in-house audit was completed by the communications team on 15/01/2025. A manual check of the website is undertaken including ensuring the focus order is logical and there are accessible alternatives for video-only content.
